Unity in the Community

On Saturday, July 28, our children and staff had the honor of participating in the first annual West Oakland Unity Fair at DeFremery Recreation Center. The Unity Fair was a resource fair and celebration hosted by the West Oakland Community Collaborative, a network of agencies, organizations and service providers committed to working together to leverage the shared strengths to address challenges facing West Oakland residents. We had a BLAST!

Members of our Performing Company took the stage and performed Higher Ground: A Tribute to the African Root of Stilt Dancing, a juggling act, and finished with our summer hip hop dance.

We also hosted an activities area where everyone could “step into the ring” and learn to juggle, try the tight wire, and learn more about our programs.

The event offered the community the chance to connect with and learn more about all of the different services and supports that are available in our own neighborhood. Other agencies in attendance included:


About the West Oakland Community Collaborative
Founded in 2001 with nine West Oakland community-based organizations, and support from The San Francisco Foundation and Supervisor Keith Carson, the West Oakland Community Collaborative’s (WOCC) mission is to “enhance, expand, unite, and build the capacity of West Oakland community-based organizations to improve and protect the quality of life, positive living conditions, and social, cultural, and economic viability of all West Oakland residents.”
