Thank you for joining us in celebrating your student’s skills and creativity during Family Literacy Day this past Tuesday.

Reminders:

  • Our final shows are coming up July 9,10, and 13. Please save the dates and spread the word! This coming week is our final / show week and incredibly important for students. Please help students arrive on time and ready. We look forward to seeing you all at our final shows and DeFremery show / family potluck. You can find show times here https://www.prescottcircus.org/events/
  • This week, we discovered that one of our student has lice. We have taken preventative measures to stop the spread of lice and will continue to do so throughout show week. Any student who has had lice can return to program after being treated, reinspected, and confirmed to have no lice. Currently, it seems to be very contained. We encourage families to check students and other family members throughout the weekend and Monday morning before drop off.
  • Pick up and drop off location varies from Mon July 8 – Wed July 10. Please review the pickup / drop off text and call if you have any questions.
  • Students need to wear appropriate clothes for circus activities each day including socks and closed-toe shoes that cover the entire foot for stilts and unicycle.
  • If your child won’t be attending or is running late, please let us know so we can plan accordingly.
  • Nutrition is important! Please send your child to program with lunch if they do not like the school meals.
  • Call us anytime you have a question or need.

The 2024 Summer Circus and Academic program has had an amazing third week!

Our third week focused on storytelling and skill building. We began qualifying our circus tricks in preparation for show casting. Qualifying a circus skill means that a student can perform it well enough to perform it in a show. It takes rigorous practice, patience, and focus to develop a skill strong enough to perform under pressure. Throughout the week, we had students qualifying on rolling globe, on the rola bola, and with their juggling!

Coach Cesar continued to lead clowning and helped students with their balancing skills on rolling globe and tightwire!

Coach Coicoi led juggling and unicycle. She, Coach Damari, and our Junior Coaches also began teaching our Higher Ground stilt dance choreography to those students who are ready.

Guest Artist Khamani Calvin continued to lead students in choreography for their ensemble dance.

Miss Sparkle introduced students to the math center where students get to challenge their math and problem solving skills together. In Ms. Sparkle’s class, students were also taught about plot development to help create the story for their final show.

On Friday, we all took a trip into San Francisco to see Circus Bella perform. Some students performed in the opening act and all students got to see some incredible artists and gather inspiration for their final show!

Ready for the World
A circus adventure of navigating new adventures and overcoming challenges

This week, Coach Coicoi, our Junior Coaches, and older youth began the creative process for this year’s summer show. The group looked back on past years’ summer show titles and themes and reflected on what felt relevant and important today.

In academics rotations, Miss Sparkle introduced students to the elements of storytelling to support their next steps.

Also in the academic academic space, students were asking for “Harder Math!”
So Miss Sparkle created new math center in the portable. Each day, students have access to skill-level worksheets to keep up and challenge their math skills. See more here!  2024 Summer Academic Virtual Hub

Skill building is exploding! Here are a few things students shared during Thursday’s reflections:

I got to walk on tall stilts for the first time!

I practiced jumping from one globe to another….

I was hopscotching on stilts and this is only my 4th time practicing!

I made it across the yard on the unicycle for the first time…..

Stay tuned for more pictures of students’ skills.

Family are welcome to drop in anytime to watch or get in on the act!

Six students are practicing dancing on stilts in the auditorium. Coach coicoi is standing in front of them with her back to the camera giving them instruction.

Miss Sparkle is walking around the classroom helping students sitting at their desks working on projects. A white board with the Summer Academic space classroom values and student writing prompts
