Stepping Up for Juneteenth

Prescott Circus summer stars stepped up in celebration of Juneteenth this past weekend. On Friday, students performed as jugglers and stilt dancers at the Lincoln Child Center’s Juneteenth Celebration. Lincoln Child Center is right down the street from Prescott and we were excited to participate in this first time event.

On Saturday, we participated in the San Francisco Junteenth annual parade and Fillmore Street festival. Crowds were amazed and enthusiastically cheered our performers who inspired smiles everywhere they went. It was great fun to parade through the neighborhoods on the way to the Fillmore and see all the surprised looks and smiles from children and adults looking out of their windows, standing on their steps, and coming out to the street.

Juneteenth honors the June 19, 1865 announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas, and more generally the emancipation of African-American slaves throughout the Confederate South. It’s an honor for Prescott Circus to be invited to contribute to these celebrations, for our children to show their charisma, pride, and strength!
